Catechetical Office
This Office in the parish plays an important element in augmenting parents, who are the first teachers of the faith to their children, in passing on the faith in a holistic and complete manner. The Office together with a team of dedicated volunteer teachers cater to 1,300 children ranging in age from 7 yrs old to 16 yrs old.
This Office oversees the planning and implementation of the catechetical programme with guidelines issued by the Archdiocese and also in collaboration with the Youth and Young Adults Office of the parish for our Confirmation programmes.
Catechism classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays. The Catechists, in conjunction with parents, prepare the children in faith formation and for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Class schedule and registration details are available at the Catechetical Office, St Clare centre.
Our Catechists
Catechists are those who are called to serve through teaching, witness, prayer, service and building community. Catechists minister to adults, youth and children in a variety of locations and programs: parish faith formation & religious education programs, youth ministry programs, sacramental preparation, RCIA, family programs, Scripture study, and more. Through word and example, catechists teach the Catholic faith and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Catechist Conference
Our volunteer catechists spend a majority of their weekends giving lessons to our children. They spend hours at meetings and lesson planning.
Recognizing the generosity of our catechist volunteers and their personal need for ongoing formation and growth in the faith, a Catechists Conference is planned yearly to update and help them in becoming better agents to pass on the faith. Speakers at the conference touch on topics of relevance which include pedagogy, understanding the psychology of young people, theology, church history and many other issues.
Coupled with the conference, regular updating classes are also planned to keep our catechists engaged and involved.
